If you haven't heard of us before, no worries, we probably haven't heard of you either!
We are a hearty group of about 30 individuals that, for the past 40 years almost, have determined to make a go of it on our isolated island "paradise".
Beecham Island is a great family kind of place, and other than trying to grow enough food each year to feed ourselves, we've recently decided to reach out to the world to share two things that are unique to Beecham.
ZASUU!
The first is the fascinating history of the island itself that dates back to cave drawings from 200 B.C.! During this earliest period, researchers and archeologists have pieced together the story of the mythic leader ZASUU who took his people through an incredibly tragic period on the island.
Amongst his many interesting characteristics are his "Lightning Bolt" hairstyle with which he is always depicted in the island's cave drawings, as well as his Six Fingers that appear broadly in the archeological record on the island.
Believed to be descended from the gods by many of his people, he is believed to have severed his sixth finger by his own hand to demonstrate to his people his human characteristics and to convince his people that they too could overcome all adversity by their own human efforts.
By all accounts, ZASUU appears to have been successful in leading his people through a dark period in their history, in return for which they adopted his name for their entire civilization.
ZASUU is often depicted in the Beecham Island ideograms between the mountain and ocean on what appears to be the equivalent to a modern day surfboard. While the interpretation of these ideograms is the subject of intense scientific and academic debate (see more at www.ZASUU.com), we believe there is sufficient evidence of his prowess over the waves to lay claim to the title of the Worlds' First Surfer!
Ski and Surf in Our South Pacific Paradise!
Our second feature on the island is related to the relatively recent weather conditions that have actually allowed us to strap on skis and snowboards for a few weeks each year to experience unbelievable snow conditions on the upper reaches of Beecham Mountain ("The Beech") as a complement to the radical surfing conditions we have on a fairly reliable basis.
So, enjoy your surf through our website (and our related site: www.ZASUU.com) and drop us a line to let us know what you think!
Maybe we'll even have the pleasure to meet someday if you are actually crazy enough to apply to join us for a bit of surfing, snowboarding and skiing!
